The three colossal reinforced concrete bunkers withstood the Allied bombardment, while 90% of the town of Lorient was destroyed! Today, guided tours of bunker K3 give everyone the chance to discover this important site in the history of the Second World War, which has now been awarded the “Patrimoine du XXe siècle” (20th Century Heritage) label. From the top, you have an exceptional view of the entire harbour! After the war, the French Navy established the HQ of the second squadron of Atlantic submarines here until 1997. The Flore-S645 submarine, a vestige of this era, is open to visitors and stands in front of the museum dedicated to it. Among other things, you’ll discover the world’s oldest rescue center for submariners.
